It is not uncommon to work with bloggers in the public relations world, but it can be a frustrating pursuit. The content hunt has given me plenty of fuel for a blog of my own. Here are four ways to keep public relations professionals interested in your content:
1. Write quality blogs about what you know and keep the website current.
I do not post unless it is mandatory or I have something to say. I understand the idea of posting quality content. Anyone can post, but not everyone should. Bloggers should let their audience know what they blog about on their about page. I have found some wonderful blogs for client work and not been able to use them because the last blog was posted six months ago.
2. Searchable blogs are essential for public relations professionals.
Make the blog easy to navigate. No one in public relations has time to read all 200 posts on a blog to find content relevant to a client or project. The money and time will go to the blogger with a searchable, current website. If a bloggers wants to make money and be relevant, then they will accommodate their potential clients.
3. Use spell check.
I have to find media coverage for clients and the number of spelling errors I see each day is disturbing. Editing should always be part of the writing process. Deadlines can make editing a quick process, but always read over content or run it through spell check. Spell check will not catch everything, so it is also important to understand homophones.
4. Contact information should be easy to find.
There is nothing worse than having to hunt down contact or location information for a blogger. I do not want to sift through content on Twitter, Facebook and a blog to find where the writer lives and their contact information. Make contact information available somewhere on the website and clearly label it as a point of contact.
